I was just watching the video for "Linger" by the Cranberries.
The video is set inside a rather decrepit old house, possibly abandoned, that seems to serve as a seedy hotel of sorts.
Early on, we get to see a bathroom sink, lit by a lonely flashlight. The constant drip of water has deposited rust in the sink. The rust has formed little flakes. These flakes are very thin, almost translucent, reminding me of rust-coloured razor blades.
They look sharp enough to cut myrself on, but at the same time I know they are so fragile that if I touch them the wrong way they'll fall apart.
I couldn't help but think that they are, in this way, very like some people I have known over the years... and perhaps a bit like myself, as well.
